World of Warcraft Item Upgrades Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats. Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a specific amount. Item Level The value of an item's stats base increases as it is upgraded. The value is the sum of all the upgraded benefits (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive dependent on who you employ and what you decide to do. This is due to the fact that many perks need to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded. It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It is also used to limit how much PvP gear players are able to wear, since PvP is limited at a lower level. Players can view their average level of items on their character sheet. The level of an item will allow players to compare the strength of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a measure of the item's condition and its quality. The item level can also be used to compare items when examining the inventory of a vendor. The level of the item can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the item's full description, including the ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering an item with the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel into chat. There are a few theories about how the calculation of an item's level is done. One theory suggests that the item level is calculated using formulas that determine the value of an item's stats actually are. It considers the fact that various perks have different value, and also that gems in sockets increase the value of the item overall. This process could result in a calculated amount for the item's level, which is usually quite close to the actual Blizzard level of the item. A white or grey item for instance, will only be upgraded once, while an item with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times at more expensive costs. Another method to alter the stats of an item is through affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and they come in all shapes and sizes. Affixes are used to provide items with extra damage, special capabilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs), or to make them unique by putting a name on them. Presently, all affixes are able to be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button with circling arrows. It will cost a set amount of gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges as with other methods of rerolling. Players can upgrade an item to a specific stat, or reroll attaches. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However, all items will have at least one stat in the same range, unless it's an exclusive item, or the item is a God Roll from a raid boss. This is another thing that could be altered by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or deciding which stats to increase. As with base equipment, it would have to be done per item, and the item comparison interface will not show all possible stats at once. Item Luck The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the chances of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of these properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade their equipment in earlier waves, and is therefore more valuable in the early game as opposed to later ones, because most players value more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains. Luck can also boost the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall chance of upgrading that increase with each level of the item. These can also be increased with the use of anti-materials like the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing. Weapons, armor, and shields can be made or spawn by using the Luck property, which has a default value of 40. These items can be improved with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the type of material) to increase the value of 40 luck or to boost the luck of the item to 140. Certain items, like the weapon that is inf us ed with hollow can also be crafted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that causes damage by 5percent. These items can be found in the shop or crafted with the right ingredients. Item Failure Not all upgrades work. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent them from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful. The success rate of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of completing the upgrade successfully and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased as much, and the likelihood that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%.. The success of an can be affected by the Luck of that item. All items have an average success rate of 25 percent, and every item with Luck increases this chance by 5%. The upgrade overlays for items are rendered above the items in the inventory. This could block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
